How is that a problem when it's done via CGI? I said designs, I just think mechs like Daizyujin and Sun Vulcan Robo look better in design than the giant messes that the modern transformers are.
Surely people can manage CGI-rectangles, right?
I also object to the notion that a boxy design can only be likable due to some emotional connection - I'm genuinely surprised someone is trying to argue michael bay style transformers are better than the old comic book ones.
That said, I genuinely think Sun Vulcan robo is one of the better looking sentai mechs, even in regards to the man-in-costume with amusingly restricted motions, not purely the design. There's something about said restricted motions and clunkiness that makes it feel that much more mechanical, slow and powerful.
Daizyujin is also great - anyone arguing otherwise baffles me.
