The one thing that struck me as strange about Americans wasn't the stupidity (IMO they're not much more stupid than any other person), but it was their willingness to tell you everything about their lives. I was sat in a hotel lobby in New York at stupid o clock in the morning. I'd made it there a day early to look around, visit some family before a conference so I was just wasting time till my American colleague came to meet me.
All of a sudden, a woman in her early 20s comes and sits down opposite me. Within about ten minutes I know everything about her life, her ex boyfriends, her parents, where she went to "college", her apartment, her boss, her job, her rent, her best friend who she lives with and has done since "college" and every single other detail of her existence. She wasn't even pissed. I know she wasn't pissed because she never drank as her dad used to after he got back from Vietnam and it changed him.
This totally bewildered me. If she hadn't had about $10k worth of clothing, a cut glass accent and perfect features I'd have probably tackled her to the ground and restrained her till professional help arrived. The same thing happened the next day with numerous people.
I loved it, even though it was weird. Which makes it even more confusing as to why you make hundreds of threads each day about not having a girlfriend/job/friends. You're the most open people on the planet.
